Background
While he was born in Texas and lived in Houston for his first ten years, Andrew spent the majority of his youth in northeast Ohio and still considers Warren, Ohio his hometown. He embraces both Midwestern values and Southern hospitality, making Chicago a natural location for him to co-found HK Private Client LLC.
Education
Andrew earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Following undergraduate studies, he completed a one-year graduate program in management at Harvard University, and then went on to complete a Master of Business Administration degree at John Carroll University’s Boler College of Business while working full-time for a financial planning and investment management firm in Cleveland, Ohio.
Early Career
Early in his career, Andrew quickly developed a keen interest in investment research and portfolio construction, and rapidly grew into the role of Chief Investment Officer for a team-based financial planning practice.
Move to Chicago
Upon completing a Master of Business Administration in 2007, Andrew relocated to the Chicago area to work for a global investment firm with cutting edge strategies and intellectual capital, known for being the largest convertible bond manager in the world. Years later, he joined several colleagues at a boutique asset management firm in Chicago’s financial district that was well-known for its management of mutual funds and institutional small-cap portfolios, interfacing between the firm’s research team and its clients. Andrew and his colleagues were instrumental in building out the client-facing customer service team on behalf of the firm.
A believer in lifelong education, Andrew used his travel time traversing the United States meeting with clients to complete the Certified Investment Management Analyst® program, earning the CIMA® credential from the Investments and Wealth Institute. Additionally, he completed the academic curriculum necessary to qualify him to sit for the Certified Financial Planner® examination. More recently, Andrew completed executive education courses at The Wharton School of Business at The University of Pennsylvania.
To augment his skill set and add greater value to his clients, in January 2024, Andrew began the Master of Science in Legal Studies at Cornell University, a degree program offered in conjunction with Cornell Law School. He expects to complete the program in Spring of 2026.
Institutional Investment Management and Private Wealth
In 2013, Andrew pursued an opportunity to further his career with The Northern Trust Company as a consultant to large institutional investment clients, including some of the largest pensions, foundations, and endowments around the globe. Drawn back to his roots in private wealth management, Andrew pursued an opportunity to become an investment portfolio manager for The Northern Trust Company, and it was in that role that he and Don Heatherly formed a cohesive and successful wealth management team focused on delivering an exceptional experience for clients. Recruited together in 2018 to join another national private bank, the team continued to pursue their value proposition, providing an exceptional client experience.
